French Class Field Trip

On Friday, my class and another class went on a field trip to a French restaurant. Well, it’s about time! We`ve waited so long for this day to come. It was a great sunny day so I got myself a bottle of water and a cap. I predicted that it would be a perfect day.

The restaurant is located in Toronto downtown so we had to take a very long walk from our school to the Finch subway station and took the train down to downtown. On the way the group broke into many small groups as people talked and lagged behind. My French teacher, Mr. H, had to run back and forth many times to speed up these slow moving “snails”. We were very lucky to get all of us on the same train but unfortunately, I didn’t get a seat. It was a long ride from Finch to King station as I sat on the cold, brutal floor.

Before lunch, we visited the St. Lawrence market. It was the best (and cheapest) market ever! There were lots of stalls in the market. We looked around the market and Mr. H let us go for free time. I found a store with Maple Syrup and it was really cheap! After I bought the Maple Syrup, I went to another shop and bought 6 bars of chocolate for only $1.00! Then everyone rushed to that shop and bought all kinds of candy and chocolates.

After the free time was over, we had to leave for lunch at Le Papillion (The Butterfly). Every year, the French teachers in our school will bring their Grade 6 classes to this restaurant. It was a big and very nice restaurant. We were led to a big room and everyone had seats. Every student had to order the meal in French and the waiter should be able to understand the orders. We had prepared and practised about this in the classroom for a long time. For me, ordering was fun and I had a perfect meal. I had vegetable soup with tomatoes, pasta with meatballs, for dessert muffin with ice cream and chocolate, and for drinks I ordered coke. It was my first French meal and it was really delicious. After everyone finished their meal, we thanked the restaurant and walked out in a straight line.

The last place we visited was a the Distillery District. A distillery is like a road but with no cars and there are rooms you can visit. It’s almost like an ourdoor museum. For the free time, the teacher asked us to form into groups of threes and return in 30 minutes. There was a humongous clock in the middle of the distillery so everyone could see the time. My group found a very old timed car and its license number was WHEEEEEEEE. It looked exactly like a car in the movies. We discovered a shop down the path and it had many items and food. Everyone bought a product of coloured sugar in a straw and it tasted really good. I bought some cotton candy but accidentally dropped it.

When the free time was over, we met at the entrance of the distillery. I moaned because we had to walk back to the subway station again. However, it seemed like a short walk as everyone was having too much fun eating the sugar. My friend William gave me a big portion of his because he had a huge straw and couldn’t finish it. When we reached school after walking from Finch station, (and past my house!) everyone collapsed onto the grass and were dismissed to go home. ???!!! What’s the point of walking back to school?
So long, fellow readers! This is the story of my first
French Class Field Trip! Hope you liked it! (I still think Mr. H could have let us go home on the way back.)
